Course 2 – Social cohesion through collective climate action

Social&Nature training course should help develop a new approach of Climate change, specific to vulnerable people or people with less opportunities. 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

The course 2 of Social & Nature foresees the development of a new Competences framework for social workers that aims to:

  • Improve knowledge on territorial animation, active and intercultural group pedagogies
  • Improve knowledge of project mode
  • Acquire new skills on how to conduct local citizen initiatives to prevent and reduce impacts of climate change
  • Acquire new skills of how to raise awareness and promote active participation of vulnerable populations  

THE SOCIAL & NATURE APPROACH

  1. An Intercultural & multidisciplinary territorial animation. To create a collective approach, it is important to learn active pedagogies as cooperative and collaborative pedagogies. Social worker has a key role of ‘animator’ for local group motivated to start collective action to prevent and reduce impact of climate change. A local group can be composed of various profile of people and the social worker aims to have harmonious group listening to each other, respecting interculturality and intergeneration, respecting others’ points of view.
  2. Project mode intervention. One of the real challenges for social workers is to help develop social cohesion and integrate the people they support into the “life of the city”. To this end, in the face of climate change phenomena, it is essential to adopt a collective approach to social action, enabling the most socially vulnerable populations in particular to enter a virtuous circle of citizen initiatives, to be the bearers of their own responses to the challenges of resilience to climate change, and to feel more concerned by the information campaigns. 

Concrete collective actions need preliminary preparation taking in consideration the benchmarks and challenges of collective dimension; the opportunities and blocking factors. In this context, the role of the social worker becomes that a coordinator, able to identify innovative local initiatives, to stimulate projects, to support the actors of innovation, to carry their voice and more broadly. to allow good practices to be disseminated. 

  1. Social cohesion & involvement of vulnerable populations. Social&Nature aims to prepare social workers of raising awareness of population about bottom-up approach and involvement in local citizenship responses of preventing and reducing impact of climate change. Social worker has a mission of understanding possible barriers of participation, encouraging active participation and help local group to promote their green eco-project. 
  2. How to transfer my knowledge and encourage changes in local scale. Social and Nature should then help social workers to transmit their knowledge and engage their public targets in change. 

 CONTENT

The course consists of 4 modules: 

  1. Territorial animation
  2. Project mode intervention
  3. Social cohesion and involvement
  4. Transversal compétences

Each module present the same structure:

  1. An introduction
    • Three Units a section devoted to specific aspects. Each unit includes:
    • The presentation or explanation of topics and keywords, with links to additional sources of information
  2. A practical part with exercises or activities that can be used by trainers, with a section devoted to additional resources, specific documentation, links to websites, sources used.
  3. A test  for self-assessment
